The Fable and the Fallacy

Marker,Morse,Perry

What was once a precious gem, handed down for generations,
was something to be treasured, but keeping with these
modern times is now a stone, a rock, a diamond.
Whose strength surpassed a steel blade.

Not to worry, a diamond will never break.
Not to worry, a diamond will never crack.
Not to worry, a diamond will never split.
It will, it will, it will sustain.

Eventually the stone cast a glance,
which cuts glass and ties and flesh.
The dust chokes out the sparkle.

What holds me here is my love for you.
What holds me back is that I don't trust you with my soul,
        and the sparkle is gone.
