Subject: ANNOUNCE: VMPEG 1.5 PC Windows 3.1 MPEG-1 video & audio player released

Version 1.5 of VMPEG is now available by anonymous ftp. It also has been posted
to alt.binaries.pictures.utilities.

Major differences to the previous release (1.2a) are:

- MPEG audio decoding added
- improved user interface
- slightly improved speed
- synchronized (real-time) playback
- Win32s no longer required
- WinG included in the archive
- installation program provided

Remark: the audio decoding feature of VMPEG is still experimental. You
        will need at least a 486DX/66 for QCIF (~176x120) or a Pentium 60
        for CIF (~352x240) size video and a fast VLB or PCI graphics card
        to expect satisfactory results.

 - decodes layer II MPEG-1 audio (restricted to 15 seconds monaural decoding)

               video only sequence

 - display options: 4x4 ordered dither normal size (8 bit)
                    4x4 ordered dither double size (8 bit)
                    grayscale (8 bit)

    - '386,'486 or '586 processor (no '286)
    - 8 MB RAM
    - Super VGA (>= 640x480x256)
    - Windows 3.1, optionally WinG

  - Win32s is not required


This release of VMPEG is a demonstration version. For this reason audio is
restricted to 15 seconds and stereo decoding has been disabled.
