So if you saw this sign in a photo, you'd probably think it was taken in
1982 or something. Try last week. The Tubes are playing a tour right now
and unlike the Motels show from the week before, this wasn't just Fee and
some players. Okay, so Spooner and Cotten and Welnick weren't there, but
he still had Roger Steen and Rick Anderson and of course Prarie Prince. In
addition, they had a couple of new keyboardists, Gary Cambra (who also played
guitar & percussion) and David Medd, and a female vocalist, Lesley Paton.
They also had Steve Lukather (who's co-written several Tubes songs, including
She's A Beauty.
The last couple of times I've seen the Tubes, they just came out and played, and that was fine, as their music stands up on its own merits. This time, they went back to the "old school" Tubes style, or at least Fee and Lesley did, with several costume changes and lots of on-stage antics to go along with the music. Fee even came out as Quay Lude to do a couple of songs (including WPOD of course). It was a whole lotta fun. Enjoy the pix - |
