Another excellent set by the Negro Problem at Spaceland. This time they
had both Probyn and Lisa play with them, and Heidi split time between
bass and keyboards. They also had Morely join them again for a song.
They played She Got Into Me again, and Stew has either abandoned
the cleaned up lyrics that they played at first at 14 Below, or he
just figured the Spaceland crowd could handle the original lyrics.
One of the cool things about seeing one of these ragged spontaneous shows of TNP is that you get to see how fluidly they move around in musical style. There's always an overriding pop sensibility, but depending on who's playing, it can change the overall feel of the group. When Stew plays a solo song, it's coffee shop pop. When it's just Heidi & Stew & Andy, they have a kinda folky pop feel. Add in Probyn & Lisa & they either sound more 70's pop-ish (think Burt Bacharach) or more funky (maybe Earth Wind & Fire). Throw in Morely's keyboard leads and they're progressive rock. Nothing personal Andy, but I'm still waiting for the answer to the question, Where's Charles? Enjoy the pix - |
