The sparkle*jets started off on a shocking note. Literally. Mike leaned in to start singing "She's My Fave" & got zapped by the microphone. I was shooting from behind the band at the time & noticed that he wasn't singing, but I didn't know why. Mike came running back at me backstage & yelled something which I couldn't hear over the drums. I though maybe the mic cable was unpugged or something, so I was looking around for an XLR cable hanging around loose. It wasn't until later that I found out what happened. After that song, he went back & found the mic windscreens, & put one on for "safe singing" (which got a Beavis & Butthead kinda laff from the kids), then the `jets were soaring again. They played 3 or four more `jets songs, including A Nice One, which had the kids rocking back & forth in unison (e.g. see jets241.jpg). At one break in the show, Susan threw some candy out into the crowd which the crowd scrambled madly for. Julian saw that trick & decided to try it. Soon kids were crowding around Jules like he wuz the doorman at Studio 54. Susan pointed out that this was once her Bowl, since she went to FVHS. Jamie cooked up a surprise with the choir director, so Susan got made a member of the Troubadours (the elite choir group at FVHS), and then some of her co-Troubadours & the principal joined the `jets onstage for a couple of 60s covers (My Boyfriend's Back & Mustang Sally). Needless to say, the kids loved "Mr. Knight & his band". ;-) Enjoy the pix -
