As the sun sank into the smog-drenched Orange County horizon, the Sparkle*Jets
dazzled the crowd with a shimmering twilight set. I really like the coloration of
some of the shots from early in the set. The sunset was also very cool if you went
in the living room and watched their set from behind. Unfortunately, there were
lights on on the patio, so the camera focused on the band and didn't capture the
sunset very well. It did show up reflected in the sliding glass door in a
shot or two.
I tried to take some pictures of the group from above, by reaching out over the edge of balcony, but it was pretty hard to frame shots that way, so mostly I got the tops of a couple of heads. One highlight of the Sparkle*Jets set was the cover they did of Ben, which was aided by Severo & Robbie Rist joining them as backup dancers (I'm pretty sure they're the two missing Jackson brothers... the two that were left out of the Jackson 5 for their lack of dancing skills :-). The song climaxed as Nipper Seaturtle pulled a stuffed rat out of her handbag and added it to the mix. It was one of those tearful, touching reunion moments, as Susan was reunited with her precious "Ben". Enjoy the pix - |
