The South Bay Surfers at The Lab

Los Angeles - December 31, 2000

[John's Local Band Pix]

The South Bay Surfers suck. Ostensibly, that's the jist of their act: that they play old cover tunes with varying amounts of lack of rhythm and tonality. In a campy sort of way, it's amusing, but they played for way too long at this show. They played for over an hour, taking time away from bands that are clearly more engaging, Third Grade Teacher and the Centimeters. The one brief moment of entertainment during their set was when Sabrina and Nora joined the SBS on stage as go-go dancers/backup singers for the song Short Shorts.

To be fair, there were some people having fun during the South Bay Surfers' set, but If you're ever at a club and they start to play, my recommendation is that you head for another club, or at least go out for a drink or a smoke, cuz they're probably gonna play too long.
