The original schedule had the Negro Problem going on first at 10, then George
Sarah & Lili Haydn to follow. I was planning on seeing the Negro Problem, then
splitting, so in a way I'm glad they switched, as it gave me a chance to
check out a pretty fascinating set. George Sarah plays an interesting mix
of techno/house and classical. It's sorta like the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
of music (Hey! You got house music in my classical! YOU got CLASSICAL in my
house. mmmmmmmmmm. :-) I like both classical and house, and I love anything
experimental, so I was pretty much enthralled.
Basically, the band consists of George on synths, bass, tape loops, samplers, etc., and three women on strings, who he introduced, but whose names elude me. If you can identify them, let me know. For this gig, he also had sometime collaborator Lili Haydn sit in for about half of the songs. Lili plays violin and sings, and does both beautifully. She reminds me a bit of Kate Bush on stage. As you can see from the photos, I was keen on the juxtaposition of technology and craft, as I took several photos that show both the oscilloscopes and one or more of the women playing traditional instruments. And of course I took a lot of pictures of Lili Haydn, who looks even more beautiful in person than in my pictures. Enjoy the pix - |
