In the past, I've mentioned that I'm not too fond of taking
pictures at the Teazer, as almost all their lights in the front
are red, and they have backlighting in various colors. The Coolpix
doesn't normally deal well with heavy red saturation, and lights
behind the subject generally cause focus problems and bad
exposure. To make it as miserable as possible for photographers,
they also have a smoke machine and use it generously.
Despite the odds, many of the pictures from this show came out very good. Early in the show, Barbara said something like "isn't that enough of the smoke", so the lighting guy went light on the smoke for the rest of the show, that probably helped. I also stayed close to the stage while shooting, so the camera focused a little easier and the flash probably lightened up the red oversaturation. Barbara Ann played a nice long set to an appreciative crowd, so I got plenty of good photo opps, including one airborne shot of Mike. The one shot I'm bummed I missed is when Barbara Ann herself went airborne at the end of the set. Maybe I'll cap it off the video and add it here later. Check out Barbara Ann at the Opium Den this Wednesday (the 26th), and enjoy the pix - |
