For the second set in a row, the drummer from one band picked up a
guitar and played leads for the next band. I thought this must be
a trend for the evening. I was convinced Marcos would be playing
lead guitar for the Double Naught Spies when they came on. It would
be the evening of drummer continuity.
No disrespect to the other bands on the bill, but I thought The Andersons pulled off the hottest set of the night. They played through a raging set of their numbers, and Bob started them off playing Infatuation by Rod Stewart. He was calling out the chords and the band was playing along for a verse, but then he got to a part that he didn't know so they just stopped. Actually, he's just addicted to the guitar riff. Then later, Bob sang a love song to Bill. It was one of those touching moments that you just have to be there to really experience. By the end of the tune, I was getting a little misty eyed, as was the rest of the audience. At one point they asked what they should play, and the audience gave them several suggestions. I eschewed my normal request of Freebird and asked for My Life Still Sucks, to which Bill responded "Oh, we're real sorry about that," (har har), but they did go on to play the song. One other note -- my apologies to Marcos for incorrectly labeling him as Jimmy on my previous Andersons pages (I've corrected it), and thanks to Walter Clevenger for pointing out the mistake to me. If you notice that I've got a name wrong somewhere, come up to me and say something like, "Hi, your page sucks, but if my name was right, then it would rule!!! |

Somewhere in the middle of their set, the Andersons (or Bob anyway) decided that they were going to hold a dance contest. So they got victims (er, I mean volunteers) out of the audience to come up and dance with Bob while the band played. It was quite a variety of styles. The first contestant (I think her name is Fran), gave the traditional all-out-into-the-music rock and roll type dance. Next up, Mike from the Dairy Kings came up and pulled off some funky fresh hip-hop moves. The third contestant (Bob said her name was Kyra) got up and danced in a more sexy-smooth style that you'd see in a dance club. If she were a guy, she would have been doing the white man's overbite. Finally, Bill danced a slow dance with Bob. Bob announced that Bill was the winner, but I think there might have been some nepotism there. |
