This may be the biggest audience I've ever seen Third Grade Teacher play to. There might have been more at the Weezer Troubadour show, but not many. Because this was a school show, they had to be a bit careful about lyrical content. It's not like you can open a high-school gig with Rage-a-Holic. The funny thing is, the wilder stuff is what the kids responded best to. 3GT opened with Cinnamon & there was a good applause, but no Beatlemania level reaction. Then they broke out Schoolboy. Teen jaws dropped. Some people got up on the benches so they could see better. I heard one boy comment, "My third grade teacher was nothing like THAT." Dusty O'Merriweather. Even bigger response. Now more of the kids were climbing up on the benches, & everybody was hooked. For their 60's cover they did My Generation by the Who, and though the irony may have been lost on some of the kids, the rocking wasn't. Another big response. Laura said that this was her Bowl as well, as she also went to FVHS. Then Sabrina announced that this was their last song, & they dropped the bomb. For their closer they did Monster/Tongues, which totally pushed the crowd over the top. Impressionable minds were blown. Socks were rocked off. When Sabrina did the inverted growl move on Tongues (e.g. Sabrina1683.jpg), the crowd exploded. The Times Warner crew seemed freaked out, they didn't know whether to shoot Sabrina or run away screaming. As Sabrina was mobbed by kids after the show, I was packing up my camera & I thought, "You know, 3GT needs to play more all-ages shows". Enjoy the pix -
