The words "Third Grade Teacher" and "Al's Bar" don't usually call to
mind a sensitive and tuneful acoustic set, but that's exactly what
the Teacher delivered for this particular show. The only plugged in
instrument was Laura's bass, and it was turned down mighty low. Sabrina
didn't use a microphone, and she didn't need one. The audience could
clearly hear her sweetly crooning her way through So Long, Tapestry,
and There is a Place.
Because the band weren't distracted by their usual histrionics which we all know and love, they were able to focus more on the music, so this was musically the best show I've ever seen them do. Even without amplification, their blend, execution, and performance was spot on. I'm not saying they should wuss out and become a soft rock band or something, but for a band such as 3GT where there's so much emphasis on the spectacle of their shows, it's good to hear them do a warm and intimate performace like this to remind the audience that they're excellent musicians with good songs as well. Now back to the whup-ass psycho-rock show for the next set at Al's. :-) skippy skip-skop - |
